As the song says, “We all need somebody to lean on.” None of us can get through life alone. The sooner we realize that and start leaning on others – and letting others lean on us too – the sooner we’ll find happiness, peace and success.

Often people have burdens that they keep inside and they begin to think that no one cares. Maybe you do too. Sometimes we just need someone to listen and tell us it’s OK. So don’t hesitate to “call on your brother when you need a hand, ’cause we all need somebody to lean on.”

Try this exercise: Think of three people you know you can lean on. Then ask yourself,  “Do they know they can lean on me too?” Send them this song and let them know they can. A simple note that says, “Thanks for being there… I’m here for you too” may be just what they need to hear!

Special thanks to Playing for Change for creating this wonderful version.

“Lean On Me” by Bill Withers

Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain, we all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrow

Lean on me when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need somebody to lean on

Please, swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won’t let show

You just call on me, brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Lean on me when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need somebody to lean on

You just call on me, brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean on

If there is a load
You have to bear that you can’t carry
I’m right up the road, I’ll share your load
If you just call me

Call me (If you need a friend)
Call me (Call me uh-huh)
Call me (When you need a friend)
Call me (If you ever need a friend)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (If you need a friend)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me (Call me)
Call me
