What happens when you put a preschool in a nursing home? Lots of wonderful things! An inter-generational learning center in Seattle, Washington has being doing it for years and the results are wonderful for all involved.

The senior living community is called Providence Mount St. Vincent and it hosts a preschool, and some of the caretakers are the senior residents. This type of setting provides a positive, youthful outlook for the residents and gives children a chance to engage in activities not only with other kids, but their elders too, instilling in them a sense of respect at a young age. How wonderful an idea it is to integrate these two very important care settings!

I absolutely love this idea. Elders bring so much of value to the toddlers, while the toddlers bring a sense of youth and carefree spirit to the elders. It’s a win-win for everyone!
